Why are you running for office?: I am running for Mayor of San Luis Obispo to represent those who do not feel heard, protect our charming and historic Downtown, and say no to 75-foot monster buildings. I will address the homeless issue and work to preserve our Open Space and mountain views.
What makes you qualified for the job?: Mayors are typically the fabric of a community. I feel that I am a part and understand this community and its history.

I moved from South Gate to SLO in 1974. My life experiences, professionally and as a community leader and a member of the press have provided me with the opportunity to work with the public and the government. I have worked with political candidates, helped to organize big events ranging from the No Nuke rallies at Port San Luis to Earth Day Fairs from 1996 to 2019. I created and published Information Press, a free monthly progressive paper for 25 years and had a radio talk show.

I met many people from all walks of life, Presidential candidates, Governors and worked with many local county and city managers. I know my community, I know San Luis Obispo, I appreciate SLO for all that it is and what it has become known for. Now I fear the rush to build by newcomers or those that do not appreciate our history, charm, mountains views and blue skies may destroy this central coast paradise.
What are your two main priorities if you win?: 1. Slow down and re-evaluate some of the growth on the books. When we cut down 564 trees to make way for 600 new homes we created a negative effect to our air quality. in this time of climate change we cannot take such risk. We need to build around the trees and we should have saved the soil at San Luis Ranch. It is time to think of the future. Instead it was moved away.

2. Review the 75-foot building and set some sensible guidelines for growth in the city and get the City back on a firm financial footing.
How will you interact with other governments?: From my experience as a publisher, radio host and campaign coordinator I worked with all types of government agencies and political candidates. In 1976 I helped to coordinate an event which brought Governor Brown to the Mission Plaza. I was the West Coast assistant to Dennis Kucinich when he ran for President. I brought him to SLO in 2007 and attended several candidate debates across the country. I've been fortunate to find myself in unique and special opportunities throughout my years in SLO.
What are your plans to help overcome COVID-19?: I will follow the guidelines suggested by the Governor and SLO County Health Dept.

At this time I believe we must make every effort to be safe. Masks should be worn. Open up slowly and cautiously.
Which two issues are most important to you?: 1. Ensuring we have a safe and healthy community.

2. Keeping businesses open and preserve Downtown SLO.
