Customers return to family-owned Orcutt donut shop since pandemic reopening

ORCUTT, Calif. - For many, it’s hard to resist one of these donuts.

"I like donuts because they have a good taste, and they have a really good texture," said donut lover Kellen Stone.

But For the first time in thirty years of being open in Orcutt, the family-owned Golden Donut struggled with business during the pandemic.

"They didn’t want to come out … scary … so it was slow for us when they didn’t come out," said owner Houth Hak of The Golden Donut.

Managers say they lost almost half their business. But eventually gained more supporters than ever.

"It’s a great donut shop she takes care of the customers and everybody loves her. She’s been around … and it was great to see The community Facebook page support her … it was really cool," said customer Patrick Cordova.

Now that Golden donuts is getting more customers, managers hope to hire more workers

Some customers visit  the popular donut shop to support local businesses.

"We’re local to Orcutt and we try to keep our Business logo because I’m a business owner as well so rather than going to a franchise place we like to keep it within our community and within our family and friends here so we intend to shop only in Orcutt," said resident Brody Wiley of Orcutt.

Since the reopening of California, managers say business has bounced back to normal, thanks in part, to the kids.

"Yes, all the kids from school you know mostly school and church," said Hak.

Nearly half the donuts at The Golden Donut were sold by noon on Friday.
