Sergio’s Furniture reopens at original location after devastating fire nearly two years ago

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Sergio Diaz of Sergio’s Furniture has endured a handful of struggles starting with the fire that destroyed his store and neighboring Shaw's steakhouse.
"Two years ago a fire took over our store and we had to move to the mall," says Diaz.
This year hasn’t done him any favors either, when the pandemic caused him to shut down that store location at Santa Maria Town Center Mall.
“Well we were shut down for five months this year so if we were in the mall who knows if they’re gonna be open next week,” said Diaz.
With the support of local customers, a lot of online orders, and repairs to the building, Sergio’s business is finally back at its original location on South Broadway.
But in light of the pandemic his business is focusing its attention on safety.
"Right now all of us have to wear a mask it’s not an option you know," says customer Jessica Garcia.
"I’m concerned about everybody. It’s not a disease to take lightly," says Diaz.
So as excited as he is to finally reopen, he’s playing it safe for everyone’s sake.
"Of course I would love for my store to be full of customers, but when it comes to the safety of myself and everybody else, I don’t have a problem losing a sale, because they don’t want to protect somebody else," said Diaz.
Sergio's Furniture officially reopened on Monday.
