4.7 Magnitude Earthquake strikes near Malibu, rattles parts of Ventura County
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- A 4.7 magnitude earthquake hit the Malibu area at 7:28 a.m. Thursday morning, according to the USGS. The epicenter is about five miles away from Malibu.
According to the USGS, a series of smaller aftershocks followed in the same area including a 3.4 magnitude around 8:40 a.m. and a magnitude of 3.5 around 9:37 a.m. shown in the image below as the red and orange circles.
It was originally reported as a 5.1 magnitude earthquake, but has since been downgraded as more information was gathered.
Some shaking was felt in Ventura County and portions of Santa Barbara County's South Coast as shown by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Community Internet Intensity Map below.
