Deputies close harbor entrance while investing man with a reported gun on the jetty

OXNARD, Calif.-A disturbance on a jetty led to a lengthy closure of the Channel Islands Harbor entrance on Sunday afternoon and evening.

It all started when witnesses reported seeing a man with a possible gun at the end of the jetty near the Rudder Room around 4:30 p.m.

Boats could not go in or out and one family was not allowed to get their kayak or belongings until 8 p.m..

Sheriff's Deputies, a K-9 team, a Sheriff's Helicopter , Oxnard Police and fire and Ventura County Firefighters kept beach goers away.

An alert was sent out asking people shelter in place.

Around 8:30 p.m. boats were allowed to return on the Silver Strand side of the harbor.

It is not clear if the man was taken into custody or if he received mental health help.
