OXNARD, Calif.-Some children played in snow for their first time on Saturday in the Channel Islands Harbor.

Organizers of holiday fun arranged to have 32 tons of snow dumped on the grass at the Channel islands Harbor View Park.

Kids had snowball fights while parents took pictures.

Jeremiah Patacsil of Ventura got the hang of it quickly.

"I have never seen it before, so it is really cold, but I don't know, it is just fun making snowballs." said Patacsil.

He had no trouble hitting his dad with a snowball.

The Channel Islands Harbor Public Information Officer Jed Chernabaeff watched the clouds for rain and tried to make sure dog walkers didn't let their four legged friends turn the snow yellow before the children played.

"Well the Grinch isn't going to beat us this year, the Parade of Lights is a rain or shine event and we brought in the snow this morning and we have had a really good turn out so far."

The 56th Parade of Lights took place after dark with a Let it Glow theme.

One boat stalled and received assistance right away.

The rest went around the harbor a few times as people watched from shore.
