Oxnard man spreads holiday joy with treasured Snow Village

There's nothing quite like a Winter wonderland to get you in the holiday spirit!

Erbie Daw Jr. an Oxnard resident, has charmed residents year-round with his festive Snow Village. He said he modeled his creation after a specific, local city. Can you figure out which one?

Snow-capped mountains with skiers lead to a frozen lake for skaters. At the edge of the village, visitors will spot the seaside, complete with harbor fishing.

"All this right here is a town of the 50's but they kind of cheated a little bit cuz there's a Starbucks over there," said Daw.

The display is hidden away in a special warehouse in Ventura County. Daw said started collecting the pieces in the early 1990s. Over a span of 20 years, it multiplied into what it is today.

"I've got a complete town with a hospitals. You know, I've got a football field over here, I've got an airport. And I kinda designed this with Ventura in mind."

"It took me and a friend of mine about three months totally to finish this. I counted the pieces. This is every piece on this table. I quit at 2,000."

Daw's village is powered with electricity and embodies vignettes and memories of a simpler time: gatherings at the diner with friends; family night special at the movie theater; chopping wood for a real cold, winter night while a fireman rescues the family cat from a tree.

"A lot of people come up to see it. I show it all the time."

He even has a special game built in for the kids; can you spot all four cats?

"I always tell people, 'This is a town with no cancer. The hospital is just for having babies.' I like to think there's no cemetery here. So, this makes you feel good just to sit here and look at it you know, knowing that nobody dies here."

It is Erbie Daw Jr.'s Holiday wish for us all.
