Oxnard police make arrests for street racing

OXNARD, Calif. -- Oxnard Police Department made multiple arrests on Thursday night.

On Thursday from 7:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., the Oxnard Police Department and California Highway Patrol had a joint effort in placing enforcements on street racing.

Both agencies together gave numerous citations and arrested two drivers for street racing and another driver for reckless driving.

Oxnard Police and CHP say they are committed to ensuring traffic safety on the roadways and that they will continue zero-tolerance enforcement efforts in an attempt to curb illegal street racing and reckless driving.

The agencies gave a total of 80 citations, had nine cars towed, arrested three for hazardous driving and four DUI arrests.

Oxnard police say this is the fifth street racing operation within the past two months.

They say this was a response to numerous of complaints from residents and business owners about illegal street racing including reckless driving to particpants using business parking lots as gathering areas that disrupt business.

Other complaints that the department has receives included loud music, loitering, littering, urinating and drinking alcohol in public, and blocking roadways. 

The Oxnard Police Department say they have investigated 1,305 speed-related collisions since 2017 including eight fatal collisions due to dangerous driving and one illegal street racing fatal collision that resulted in three deaths.  

The agencies say they have specially trained personnel that will continue working traffic safety operations to reduce collisions and increase safety on the highways.
