VENTURA, Calif. - The Ventura Police Command Center received multiple 911 calls of a train that collided with a vehicle Saturday morning. Ventura Patrol, Ventura and Oxnard City Fire and AMR responded to the scene.

The incident occurred around 6:50 a.m. at California Street and Harbor Boulevard.

Officers said the driver of the car, a 79-year-old man, was driving south on California and stopped on the railroad tracks when he became confused as the railroad crossing lights came on and the crossing arms came down.

The engineer of the Union Pacific freight train that was traveling east on the tracks saw the vehicle and attempted to stop the train, but was unable to stop it in time.

The train collided with the passenger side front corner panel of the vehicle.

There were four people inside the car during the crash and all four were taken to local hospitals. One passenger, a 37-year-old man, sustained major injuries from the crash. We do not know his condition at this time.

No one on the train was injured.

Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved in this incident.
