Santa Barbara woman killed after being hit by vehicle on Las Positas Road

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- A Santa Barbara woman was killed Thursday night when she was hit by a pickup on Las Positas Road in Santa Barbara.

Yellow crime tape blocked a section of Las Positas Road following the crash near upper State Street.

Santa Barbara Police Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale told NewsChannel 3-12 that the woman was struck a pickup truck shortly after 6:30 p.m. Thursday night and died at the scene.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office identified the woman killed as 49-year-old Shelby Catherine Brady of Santa Barbara.

Ragsdale said the driver was heading northbound on Las Positas before hitting Brady while she was walking on the roadway.

After the collision, the driver pulled over and called police. Police said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this crash.

“As of right now, the driver is cooperating with our police department and DUI is not suspected,” Ragsdale added. “This just seems like an absolute terrible tragedy that occurred here on Las Positas tonight.”

The SBPD Critical Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene. Roadways near the crash were closed for several hours Thursday night.

The case is under investigation.

Anyone with information on this crash is urged to contact the Santa Barbara Police Department at 805-897-3719.
