Los Angeles area man killed in crash in Ventura

VENTURA, Calif. - A man from the Los Angeles area was killed in a crash on Highway 101 in Ventura Monday night.

The crash happened at 10:50 p.m. on northbound 101 at California Street.

The 40-year-old man from Carson was driving a 2017 Dodge Journey northbound when his vehicle went off the roadway and crashed into a concrete wall.

The vehicle rolled and landed in the far right lanes of the highway where it caught fire. Firefighters arrived on scene and put the fire out and removed the trapped driver.

The man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was the only person in the car. No other injuries were reported.

The crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. It's unclear if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash, CHP said.
