UCSB to host free COVID-19 vaccine clinic for kids

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara's Early Childhood Care and Education Services is partnering with the California Department of health to host a free COVID-19 vaccine clinic.

Raising kids during the pandemic has been challenging for a lot of working moms like Kimberly Young.

“I’m very glad now that daycares are reopened and just sort of can work without children in the background,” said Kim.

As society is returning to a “new normal,” Kim has decided to get her kids vaccinated.

“It's important as we rejoin the community and we're around grandparents [that we are] just making them safer and making the community safer,” said Kim.

She is thrilled that the vaccination program at UCSB is making the vaccination process simple and hassle- free.

Kids from 6 months to 11 years will get a specific Moderna shot made especially for their smaller bodies.

Annette Muse, the UCSB Director of Early Childhood Care and Education Services, helped organize this event in partnership with the California Department of Health.

“I personally feel that the vaccine is helpful and hope that families, you know, see it that way as well. But it's certainly their decision and important for them to come to that decision themselves,” said Muse.

The event runs Wednesday, July 27th from 8 am to 2 pm at the Orfalea Family Children’s Center on West Campus Point Lane in Isla Vista.

Walk-ins are welcome. Insurance is not required.
