Flash flood watch issued for recent burn scars

KEYT flash flood

A flash flood watch has been issued for recent burn scars. It is in effect from 4AM Wednesday through Wednesday at noon. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected near the most recent burn scars. This includes the Cave Fire in Santa Barbara County and the Easy Fire & Maria Fire in Ventura County. These areas are at risk for flash flooding and mud/debris flows. Stay alert if you are near these burn scars.

Rainfall rates between 0.50 inch per hour and 1.00 inch per hour are possible, especially near thunderstorms as a cold and vigorous storm system passes through our area.

Flash flooding and debris flows will be a particular threat in and below the recently burned areas. Road closures and property damage may occur due to mud and debris flows.

The National Weather Service advises residents in or below the recently burned areas to take the steps necessary to protect their property. Persons in the watch area should remain alert and stay tuned for weather updates.
