$2.5 million road project will close Highway 166 and Black Road
SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Construction for the $2.5 million Traffic Signal and Safety Improvement project is set to begin July 1 closing Highway 166 and Black Road. A section of Black Road near the Highway 166 intersection will be closed for four weeks when construction kicks off July 8th.
The entirety of the project is expected to last for five months and conclude by the end of the year. Traffic will have access through Stowell Road at Black Road and will remain open throughout construction.
According to Santa Barbara County Association of Governments; Crews will install a new traffic signal system, create dedicated turning lanes, enhance lighting, install reflective pavement markings, and install new drainage systems to address flooding along Highway 166 and Black Road. These upgrades are expected to significantly improve traffic flow and safety in the area.
Businesses near Highway 166 on Black Road will remain open and maintain access from Betteravia and Stowell roads. Highway 166 will remain open with one-way traffic control beginning this Fall.
