Righetti sports workouts put on hold after student tests positive for COVID-19
ORCUTT, Calif. - Sports workouts have been put on hold at Righetti High School in Orcutt after a student tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a Halloween party.
According to a letter sent out to parents this week, the school was informed of a positive COVID-19 test in the student body. This student recently attended a Halloween party with other students in attendance, the school said.
School administrators are encouraging parents to talk with students and make necessary precautions if they attended the party. Students who attended the party should consider staying home, quarantining for two weeks and getting tested.
Righetti is currently using virtual instruction, but athletic workouts were taking place. Those workouts have now been paused due to the positive test result. Workouts will be put on hold for at least two weeks while contact tracing is conducted, the school said.
Nearby, St. Joseph's High School opted to shut down for two weeks after a student also tested positive.
Parents are encouraged to speak with their children about attending large gatherings, contact health care providers and consult the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website to learn more about symptoms.
Education-related questions should be directed to school administrators.
