Buellton cooling center to open for Labor Day weekend heatwave

KEYT

BUELLTON, Calif. - The City of Buellton announced that its cooling center will be opening Saturday through Monday for the extreme heatwave expected over Labor Day weekend.

The cooling center will be fully staffed and located at the Jonata Middle School gymnasium at 301 Second Street in Buellton.

The center is set to open at 12 p.m. and close at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday over Labor Day weekend.

All in need of a cooler environment are welcomed to the center, but social distancing and face coverings will be enforced for COVID-19 safety.

The city also wants to remind the community that, while it is not anticipating any rolling blackouts, power outages are still a possibility during the heatwave. All residents should do their best to conserve energy this weekend between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. daily.

Residents are also asked to watch out for their family, friends and neighbors who may be susceptible to high heat.
