Shelter in place warning lifted for Orcutt neighborhood
ORCUTT, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office issued a shelter in place warning for the area of Foxenwood Drive and Old Mill Lane in Orcutt Thursday night.
The order was sent out at 8 p.m. in both English and Spanish. A second warning for the same area was sent out around 8:52, extending the shelter in place for another hour.
Residents near the neighborhood were asked to stay indoors for the next hour while law enforcement work on an operation.
Sheriff's Office spokesperson Raquel Zick explained a resident was experiencing a mental health issue inside their home during the incident. Deputies were concerned because a firearm was involved.
After speaking with the individual for a couple of hours, deputies determined there was no further threat to public safety. The individual reportedly only indicated wanting to inflict self harm during the incident. Deputies offered help, but the person declined.
The shelter in place warning was lifted at 10:51 p.m. Thursday night.
