24th annual WaterWise High School Video Contest opens applications for students
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – The 24th annual WaterWise High School Video Contest is now open for submissions. The Santa Barbara County Water Agency sponsored competition closes its online application portal at midnight on Mar. 3, 2023.
The contest features students creating 30-second videos detailing the importance of efficient water use in Santa Barbara County.
This years's chosen theme of "Does Lawn Belong" focuses on sustainable outdoor water use.
County Water Agency Manager Matt Young said, "We are pleased to continue this long-standing program and excited to see the amazing videos our local high school students will create."
Each area high school can submit up to six total videos, three in English and three in Spanish.
The county's water agency manages monetary prizes for winning schools, but students will also receive their own financial awards provided by private sector sponsors.
- First Place (English): $500 provided by Carollo Engineers.
- First Place (Spanish): $500 provided by La Buena 105.1 FM.
- Second Place: $250 provided by Geosyntec.
- Third Place: $150 provided by Ewing Irrigation.
- People’s Choice Award (voted by the public on the WaterWiseSB YouTube Channel): $500 provided by Dudek.
Winning videos will be aired on local television, digital and movie theater ads as public service announcements on water conservation.
