Railroad tracks briefly shut down while fire crews tackled small vegetation fire along Highway 101 and Las Positas Road in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The railroad tracks near Highway 101 and Las Positas Road in Santa Barbara were temporarily closed on Monday afternoon while Santa Barbara City Fire crews tackled a small vegetation fire, according to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.

The fire was reported around 2:10 p.m. on Monday, and responding units found a 50-foot spot vegetation fire along the railroad tracks, according to Battalion Chief Robert Mercado.

Crews pulled a hose line and were able to distinguish the fire in about five minutes, Mercado told News Channel 3-12. For the safety of the crews, the railroad tracks were closed while firefighters doused the flame, he added.

The tracks are expected to be closed until about 3 p.m. when crews finish at the scene, Mercado said.

There were no injuries reported, and a fire investigator was on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
