Body found in Santa Barbara homeless camp

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara City firefighters were called to a homeless camp on Sunday after a body was found inside one of the tents.

An engineer with the fire department said they responded to the Castillo offramp on the southbound side of Highway 101 around 2:12 p.m.

They said a person living at the homeless camp called saying another individual had died inside their tent.

The person was found and declared dead by AMR paramedics at the scene.

City Fire said their death was determined to be non-traumatic, which means they did not suffer serious injury from being struck by something like a car.

The exact cause of the person's death is still under investigation. Their identity has also not yet been released.
