Aircraft goes down in Los Padres National Forest
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to reports of a downed aircraft in the Los Padres National Forest northeast of Ogilvy Ranch.
The calls came in around 2 p.m. SB County Fire responded with Air Support Unit Copter 308.
Fire crews responded to the location and spotted the downed aircraft on the ridgeline near the ranch. They landed and began to investigate. Firefighters reported finding evidence that someone was injured, but no patient was located.
Copter 308 then flew down to the ranch to ask employees if they had any information about the crash. The employees said that around 10:30 a.m., the aircraft did go down and the patient was either brought to the ranch or came to the ranch on his own.
The patient was then flown by private aircraft from the air field at the ranch to the Santa Ynez Airport. From there, the patient was taken to the hospital but has since been discharged.
County Fire said their crew on Copter 308 went back to the location of the crash and disabled the electronic locator beacon on the aircraft.
They then contacted the FAA who is now investigating the cause of the incident.
