SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara officially announced the results of its sales and transient occupancy taxes from the end of 2019.

Sales Tax Results for the Quarter Ended December 31

Santa Barbara received $6.29 million in sales tax revenues during the quarter that ended on December 31, 2019.

This amount is 3.7% more than the same quarter last year.

As the second largest General Fund revenue, the sales tax budget for fiscal year is $23,773,382. Sales tax results for the March quarter will be available in May.

Transient Occupancy Tax Results

Santa Barbara announced it collected approximately $1.11 million in transient occupancy taxes (TOT) for December 2019.

The City said this amount is 6.1% below December 2018, which is likely due to the residual effects of the Cave Fire and the wet weather during Christmas week.

In January 2020, Santa Barbara said it collected about $1.09 million, which is 6.2% above January of last year.

The City said lodging establishments benefited from the sunny weather throughout the month and an extra weekend night this year.

In total, the City said it has collected approximately $12 million in transient occupancy tax revenues through the first seven months of this fiscal year, which runs from July 1 through June 30.

The City’s adopted TOT budget is $19,989,179.
