SANTA BARBARA, Calif.

The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum hosted an expo that put the focus on alternative oil platform uses.

Visitors had a chance to see presentations and exhibits.

They also heard from an experienced keynote speaker.

George Steinbach of Ojai used to be an offshore manager for Chevron.

Steinbach is now the director of the nonprofit California Artificial Reef Enhancement. (CARE)

Steinbach said alternatives oil platform uses include alternative energy production and commercial mariculture which is the cultivation of fish or marine life for food.

The oil platforms could also be partially or completely taken down to restore habitat.

State and Federal regulators will have to approve future decisions.
