SLO County Office of Emergency Services launches new evacuation zones

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. – The County of San Luis Obispo launched its evacuation planning project for area residents on Tuesday.

Head to ReadySLO.org/evaczone and enter your address into the evacuation zone tool (the small window under the "Know Your Evacuation Zone" section). That tool will provide you with your zone name that will be referred to in the event of an emergency.

The new pre-determined evacuation zones will assist first responders in rapidly determining evacuation areas during an emergency and allow residents to easily identify if they find themselves in an area under an Evacuation Warning or Order or other protective action detail San Luis Obispo County Office of Emergency Services (SLOCOES).

“Taking a minute to write down your evacuation zone could safe your life,” said San Luis Obispo County Emergency Services Manager Scott Jalbert. “[K]nowing your zone in advance will save you valuable time during an emergency if you are told to evacuate.”

If an Evacuation Warning or Order is issued, emergency officials will use an alert system, such as Wireless Emergency Alerts or Reverse 911, to notify residents which zones are affected.

By knowing your zone name in advance, points out SLO County OES in their press release about the new zones, you will be ready to respond as soon as your zone is mentioned.

The new initiative was made possible through a grant from the FireSafe Council and a partnership with the County of San Luis Obispo and the San Luis Obispo County Fire Chiefs Association.
