State Fire Marshal opens community feedback window for updated fire hazard severity map

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. – The Office of the State Fire Marshal released an update to the official Fire Hazard Severity Zone map and is now requesting public feedback.

The image above is an example of what the Fire Hazard Severity Zone map looks like.

The map updates include increased fire hazard zone status across the state.

According to the Office of State Fire Marshal, over 100,000 acres in California received an updated designation using a science-based and field-tested model that assigns a hazard score based on factors such as fire likelihood and fire behavior.

The window for community feedback on the updated map is open now through Aug. 9 of this year.

Cal Fire is expected to release updated Fire Safety Hazard Severity Zones in the City of San Luis Obispo later this year after the zones in the state's area of responsibility are finalized detail the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
