Foster Care org seeking foster families in San Luis Obispo County

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. -- Seneca Family, a San Luis Obispo County nonprofit, is searching for families to foster children and youths during Foster Care Awareness in May.

The children and youths needing to be foster have medically fragile conditions or trauma-related behavioral needs. Social workers would require specific need for families who can foster youth older than 12 and sibling sets.

Families who would like to foster should be aware that the primary goal for these kids are for them to be reunited with their biological family. Foster families should keep in mind that they will not be fostering with the end goal of adoption.

Seneca is primarily looking for families “who can support children and youth for several months to several years,” and that the agency is “happy to work with all different kinds of families who can provide support to those with a variety of needs and potential placement outcomes.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Seneca is one of many agencies who are facing financial reductions in funding from their government contracts.

A Seneca social worker, Kristi Augusta says they had to stop a majority of community-based and economic functions. She says there are "children and youth in foster care who need support now more than ever".

Seneca has transferred their services to online and are still providing the full range of supports to their foster families.
