This map marks the location where the pile burnings will take place this week in Cayucos starting on Tuesday.

CAYUCOS, Calif. - Firefighters will begin burning several dozen piles along the northeast edge of Cayucos on Tuesday.

San Luis Obispo County Fire said the piles are located north of Old Creek Road above Richard Avenue. These "slash piles" will be burned over a 2-3
day period this week.

The purpose of the burnings is to address concerns from the public
about the potential fire hazard from the many dead pines on the hill above this community.

Those dead pines were cut down by firefighters and gathered into the slash piles.

Firefighters said they will burn the piles during the day in order to minimize smoke at night. However, the burns will be rescheduled if weather conditions do not make this week suitable for a safe burning with good smoke dispersal.

SLO County Fire will be working in cooperation with CAL FIRE to complete the burning.
