4.3 magnitude earthquake reported near Cholame

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - A 4.3 magnitude earthquake was reported near Cholame Tuesday morning.

The earthquake's epicenter is located in Monterey County.

According to the United States Geological Survey's online earthquake reporting system, 124 people felt the earthquake as of 10:45 a.m.

The earthquake may have caused light shaking, and the risk of damage was considered to be unlikely.

In other news, this earthquake also had the privilege of causing the first live early earthquake warning alert for MyShake, a free global earthquake app created whose team includes students and professors from U.C. Berkeley.

The app explained in a tweet that the earthquake's initial estimate was M4.8, causing the warning alert, even though the cutoff magnitude for warning alerts through MyShake is M4.5.

The MyShake app data shows no evidence of damage as a result of the shake. Thanks to the lower magnitude, many residents also reported not feeling the movement altogether.
