Titan implosion testimony paints a picture of reckless greed and explorer passion

The operator of an experimental submersible that imploded while seeking out the sunken Titanic was either putting profits over safety or pushing humankind’s boundaries. The differing viewpoints emerged as the Coast Guard panel wrapped up two weeks of testimony into the Titan tragedy with new information that could’ve changed how rescuers responded and more discussion of the company co-founder’s cavalier attitude. Coast Guard Capt. Jamie Frederick appeared surprised to learn Friday that the crew of support vessel felt a shudder around the time of Titan’s implosion. He said the information could’ve “changed the equation” in terms of the rescue response.
