Alaska Supreme Court clears the way for ranked choice repeal measure to appear on November ballot

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — The Alaska Supreme Court has cleared the way for a measure aimed at repealing the state’s new open primary and ranked choice general election system to remain on the November ballot. The court heard arguments earlier Thursday in a case challenging Superior Court Judge Christina Rankin’s decision in June. Rankin found that the state Division of Elections complied with deadlines and acted within its authority when it allowed sponsors of the repeal measure to fix errors with petition booklets after they were already turned in. The short order simply said it affirmed Rankin’s decision. It said an opinion explaining the high court’s reasoning would be issued later.
