Same Day Registration

California is one of a handful of states that allow same-day registration for eligible voters who missed the Oct. 19 deadline.

To register on Election Day, go to your nearest polling place. To find your polling place, use the state’s polling place lookup tool to find where to go.

Voter Intimidation and Other Issues

The State of California has resources available for anyone who has issues with voting or experiences voter intimidation at the polls. If you experience any issues, call the toll free Voter Hotline at 800-345-8683 for English. For Spanish, dial 800-345-8682.

Important Deadlines

Polling stations close at 8 p.m. in California. But if you are in line when the polling centers close, you are still entitled to vote. Do not leave the line if you would like to have your vote counted. If you experience issues after polling stations close, contact the Voter Hotline number.

If you have not dropped off your Vote-By-Mail ballot, and you are unable to visit a drop off box prior to polls closing, you can still mail your ballot in, provided it is postmarked on Election Day.

Vote-by-mail ballots that are mailed must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by your county elections office no later than 17 days after polls close.

Down Ballot Races

We try to cover as many races as we can, but, unfortunately some races do not get as much coverage as we would like. City council races, school board races, community services districts and more will fill positions on Tuesday.

Voter Guide

Still unsure who to vote for?

We invited the candidates in many of our local elections to participate in a candidate survey to tell the voters about their positions. Visit the 2020 NewsChannel Voter Guide to hear from the candidates themselves.
