Cal Poly student resident advisor arrested for attempted sexual assault, burglary during break-in

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – A Cal Poly student and resident advisor was arrested Thursday in connection to an on-campus apartment break-in early September, according to a Cal Poly campus email.

In an email sent to Your NewsChannel, on Sept. 7th, the Cal Poly Police Department received a report at about 3 a.m. of an attempted burglary at one of the university’s Poly Canyon Village apartments.

"The university reported this incident to the campus community in a timely alert email in accordance with the Clery Act," read the campus email.

The CPPD's investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year-old student and resident advisor in University Housing, Thursday, Sept. 19th, around 3:45 p.m. According to the campus email, he was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail and was charged with attempted rape and burglary.

According to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office "Who's In Custody" page, the 25-year-old's bail was set at $100,000.

Cal Poly says the student has been barred from campus and "the matter has been referred to Cal Poly’s Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities."
