1 person arrested in Vegetation fire put out near the Allan Hancock College Lompoc campus

LOMPOC, Calif. — A vegetation fire was put out near the Allan Hancock College Lompoc campus Sunday afternoon, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Lompoc Fire Department Arson Investigator Luis Farah Jr. says, they arrested a 31-year-old hispanic male alleged to be the perpetrator who caused the brush fire.

Lompoc PD say the arrested the hispanic male near the now closed Valley Drive-In theater on 2126 North H Street at approximately 11:24 a.m.

"This individual was identified above and was booked into the Lompoc Police Department Jail," said Lompoc PD Sgt. Magaña. "[He] is currently being held on a $75,000 bond."

At approximately 10:45 a.m. Lompoc PD received several 911 calls regarding a brush fire near Allan Hancock College.

A couple minutes later, the county fire department were dispatched near Highway 1 and Hancock Drive at 10:47 a.m.

Crews arrived to the scene where the fire was burning in the surrounding areas of Ken Adam Park.

The county fire department assisted crews from the Lompoc Fire Department.

The Lompoc Police Department conduced traffic control as crews put out the fire. The southbound lanes going into Lompoc were temporarily closed.

County crews sent their Air Support Unit Copt 964 to further assist Lompoc Fire with air support.

Public information office for the Santa Barbara county fire department, Scott Safechuck, says the fire was put out at around 12:45 p.m.

"Forward progress has been stopped," said Safechuck.

The size and amount of the fire is yet to be determined.

Lompoc PD say anyone with further information, regarding the incident, is encouraged to contact the Lompoc Police Department.

This incident is under investigation.
