Guadalupe among top 10 finalists for T-Mobile $3 Million Hometown Techover Contest
GUADALUPE, Calif. - The city of Guadalupe is one of ten cities in the nation for T-Mobile's HomeTown Techover Contest.
T‑Mobile is going Un‑carrier on one small town with a tech upgrade valued at $3 million.
The big pink truck was hard to miss, especially in a small town like Guadalupe.
"It’s a small community along the California coast … It’s one of the only communities where you know it’s still affordable to buy," said resident Manuel Pagaling of Guadalupe.
The city is one of ten in the nation nominated for T-Mobile’s HomeTown Techover Contest.
"What it means to us is that broadband is a big deal because we don’t have the connectivity that we need for our youth population," said mayor Ariston Julian of the City of Guadalupe.
Guadalupe is the only city selected on the west coast.
If it wins, T‑Mobile is going offer a tech upgrade valued at $3 million dollars.
Residents are feeling proud.
City leaders said they hope is this nomination will inspire the community to collaborate for future opportunitiies.
"This is exciting this is great for our city and I hope more people see this and enjoy it and come on down to see that we exist and this is a pretty cool place to be," said chief Mike Cash of the Guadalupe Police Department.
T-Mobile representatives describe this as a once-in-a-lifetime chance for one small town to get a multi-million-dollar Techover and take center stage as the belle of the 5G ball. Â
As part of the celebration for being a finalist, T-Mobile offered 500 residents free meals throughout Thursday morning.
