GOLETA, Calif. — For those stuck working from home and dealing with a noisy household, there’s a spot in Goleta that’s quiet as can be.
Good Space allows anyone to rent a workspace, private office or conference room.
“We have spaces where professionals can come in and have their Zoom meetings without their pets or children in the background,” Good Space owner Mika Silverman said.
Bailey Miller is a local engineer who’s been working remotely for the past five years. Recently he began renting a private office at Good Space.
“I have a one-year-old and a four-year-old, they can get a little bit rowdy,” Miller said. “When I need quiet space, I come here to focus on my work a little bit more.”
Originally designed as a meeting spot for professional and academic communities, the COVID-19 pandemic has altered the company's business model.
“The community doesn’t need a meeting space right now,” Silverman said. “What they need is focused distraction free work spaces.”
With high-speed WiFi, air conditioning and desks safely distanced apart, Good Space allows people to separate their work from their homes.
“Boundary is important to keep,” Miller said. “It makes for a happier healthier life.”
The workspace is constantly sanitized and is capped at 15 people per day.
Lately, it’s been busier than usual.
“It’s a nice quiet space,” UCSB PhD student Matt Harris said. “I’ve been able to get back to writing, which is what I get paid to do.”
“Now that school has started, we have a lot more college, masters and PhD students coming in who want to focus,” Silverman said.
It’s also allowing everyone to increase their efficiency.
“In the past month in a half, I’ve been able to do quite a signifiant amount of work,” Harris said.
“Being able to focus on your goals and set aside that time to really achieve, that’s super important,” Silverman concluded.
Good Space is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To make a reservation, visit their website.
