Agencies up and down the Central Coast battle Cave fire

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Firefighters up and down the coast joined resources to fight the Cave Fire.

Cal Fire San Luis Obispo sent a strike team of engines, one strike team of hand crews, and overhead personnel.

“We're expecting rain to come through to help with the firefighting efforts," said Cal Fire public information officer, Adan Orozco. "But that also can hamper firefighting, as far as establishing those control lines, if it gets muddy. There are some slight concerns of mudslides.”

San Luis Obispo City Fire sent support personnel to the Los Padres National Forest dispatch center in Santa Maria.

"One of the first things you see is the engines rolling down the freeway and going up the hills to fight the fire," said SLO City Fire spokesman, James Blattler. "What you don't see behind the scenes is that there's a large staff of people staffing a dispatch center to ensure that those resources get there. That's why the City of San Luis Obispo has provided an overhead personnel to assist the Los Padres National Forest dispatch center."

Santa Maria firefighters supported the helibase in Solvang, and the air tanker base in Santa Maria.
