Santa Barbara County Fire crews contain vegetation fire off Highway 166 in New Cuyama

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – Crews responded to a vegetation fire off of Highway 166 near Perkins Road in New Cuyama, according to Santa Barbara County Fire.

Responders were able to contain the fire to around two to three acres with no injuries reported and no structures were threatened detail Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

At 1:27 p.m. on Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol incident report log said an officer spotted fire in an open field within this area, which is located a few blocks away from the New Cuyama airport.

According to the county fire dispatch center, at least two units are on the scene with possibly nine others responding, as of 1:45 p.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation as crews are currently conducting scene mop-up.
