VENTURA, Calif. - Ventura City firefighters battled a major garage fire at a residence early Wednesday morning.

Around 2:39 a.m., crews were dispatched to the 400 block of San Clemente Street after receiving a report that a fire was burning inside a detached garage.

Upon arriving, firefighters said they saw a large amount of smoke coming from the garage which was positioned behind a home. Crews did a primary search of the premises and determined no one was inside the garage before beginning an aggressive attack on the fire.

City Fire said the fire was contained to the garage and extinguished within 20 minutes of the initial 911 call.

A secondary search of the garage confirmed there was no one inside at the time of the incident.

An Incident Commander with the fire department reportedly coordinated with the owner of the home and various other resources to determine the final disposition of the garage.

In total, it was estimated the structure sustained $100,000 worth of damages and a total of $50,000 in personal losses.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No injuries were reported.

The Ventura City Fire Department would like to remind residents to make sure their homes and businesses have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and to always have an evacuation plan.
