PASO ROBLES, Calif. - Paso Robles police arrested a man on Wednesday after he allegedly tried to rob a bank in the city.

Police said they received a 911 call from an employee of Chase Bank on Niblick Road reporting a robbery around 4:50 p.m.

The employee reportedly told dispatch that a man had handed her a note demanding money and then brandished what looked like a handgun.

The man then reportedly fled the bank without taking any money from the bank employees.

Officers responded to the bank immediately and began and split up to search for the suspect and make sure the bank employees were safe and uninjured.

California Highway Patrol also assisted by sending a helicopter to search for the alleged bank robber.

A short time later, officers received a report from citizens in the area saying they had seen a person matching the description of the robbery suspect near Albertson's on Niblick Road.

Officers went to the location and found the man with help from a police K-9 Unit. He was arrested without incident.

Police verified with the bank employee that this was the person who had handed her the note and she verified he was.

The 46-year-old Paso Robles man is facing charges for felony robbery and was transported to the SLO County Jail.

The Paso Robles Police Department thanks the citizens who called dispatch reporting the man's location.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call the Paso Robles Police Department at 805-237-6464. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 805-549-STOP.
