SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Santa Maria police reported making an arrest while recovering a stolen vehicle on Sunset Avenue Saturday morning.

Around 9:13 a.m., police said they located the small black sedan parked on the 300 block of West Sunset with one person inside. The car had been reported stolen in Santa Maria on Thursday.

Officers approached the car and quickly arrested the occupant before booking him in the Santa Barbara County Jail for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

Unfortunately, police said the suspect will likely be let back out into the community on the state's emergency zero bail order.

"We’ll keep at it anyways and work to get the stolen cars back to those owners that need them to get to work and take care of their families," Santa Maria Police said on Facebook.

Officers said the car was returned back to its owners, a local family, on Saturday shortly after the incident.
