OXNARD, Calif. - The Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit (or gang unit) conducted a traffic stop on a black Chrysler on Saturday around 9:25 p.m.

The Chrysler was stopped for a vehicle code violation on Olive Street west of Gisler Avenue.

Oxnard police said they contacted five subjects in the vehicle and all five were identified as criminal street gang members.

Officers then searched the vehicle and located a loaded 9MM Smith & Wesson M&P handgun in the possession of Mark Rivas, 20.

The officers identified two of the other occupants of the vehicle as Isreal Juarez, 18, and Alexis Vallejo, 19, who have felony warrants for their arrest for illegal firearms possession.

The Smith & Wesson handgun was found to not be registered to Rivas. Rivas was arrested for various firearm related charges.
