Suspect arrested in Grover Beach carjacking

GROVER BEACH, Calif. - The Grover Beach Police Department received reports of a carjacking Tuesday evening in Grover Beach. The suspect was found and arrested.

The suspect was identified as Luis Enrique Lopez Ortiz, 27, from Anaheim.

The vehicle, described as a dark gray 2016 Toyota Camry, was reported stolen around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday evening the area of 7th Street and Longbranch Avenue.

The car was found by the Guadalupe Fire Department just before midnight on Tuesday after it was involved in a crash near the 5600 block of West Main Street.

The crash left the car with severe damage to its front and rolled over onto its top. Ortiz was found inside the vehicle with only minor injuries.

Ortiz was taken to a local hospital for treatment. After his treatment was completed, Ortiz was booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail for charges of carjacking and auto theft.

Guadalupe Fire said that alcohol and excessive speed are suspected contributing factors in the stolen vehicle collision.
