Search underway for man who beat homeless woman with metal pipe

VENTURA, Calif. - A homeless woman suffered minor injuries after reportedly being attacked with a metal pipe Tuesday night.

Ventura Police Department officers responded to the alleged assault along the 100 block of East Santa Clara Street. The victim reported that a man walked up and beat her with the pipe as she was gathering her things. Police say the suspect, only identified as a white male in his 30's, took off after the woman pleaded for him to stop. He fled the area on foot.

Officers canvassed nearby streets but were unable to locate the man. The victim was taken to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.

Police are asking witnesses to come forward with any information that may lead to an arrest.
