California to allow hair salons, barbershops to reopen as state moves further into reopening plan
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The State of California will allow counties to reopen barbershops and hair salons as the state moves further into their reopening plan.
Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the state would begin transitioning into Stage 3 of the state's Resilience Roadmap during his Tuesday coronavirus news briefing.
The barbershops and hair salons can reopen with strict modifications for safety, the governor said.
Those restrictions include masks for customers and employees in addition to reduced capacity and physical distancing. Guidelines also require increased sanitizing and cleaning practices for any business that reopens.
47 counties that have already been approved to move forward into Stage 2 of reopening will now be allowed to immediately reopen barbershops and hair salons at the discretion of each jurisdiction.
Nail salons are not currently allowed to reopen.
San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties were all allowed to move further into Stage 2 reopening and meet the state's criteria to move into Stage 3. Each county will likely need to modify their current health orders to align with the state before barbershops will be permitted to reopen.
San Luis Obispo County has released the following guidelines for barbershops, hair salons and places of worship.
Santa Barbara County released an updated health officer's order which outlines guidelines for barbershops, hair salons and places of worship.
Ventura County posted their updated requirements, which can be found here.
