Greek oil tanker drifting and ablaze after repeated attacks in the Red Sea, British military says

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A Greek-flagged oil tanker traveling through the Red Sea has come under repeated attack, leaving the vessel “not under command” and drifting ablaze in an assault suspected to have been carried out by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The Houthis for months have targeted ships to force an end to the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip. In the attack, men on small boats first opened fire with small arms. That’s according to the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center. The ship also was hit by four projectiles. The UKMTO said the tanker was ablaze. Greek officials identified it as the Sounion, which had 25 crew members. No casualties were reported.
