Louisville police are accused of wrongful arrest and excessive force against a Black man

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A 21-year-old Black man has filed a lawsuit accusing police officers in Kentucky’s largest city of wrongful arrest and excessive force. Attorneys for Jahmael Benedict say in a lawsuit filed this month that officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department arrested him last year as he walked along a sidewalk in the vicinity of a stolen vehicle. Benedict says in the suit that officers had no probable cause to make the arrest. Louisville police are declining to comment on pending litigation. They say in a statement that officers are working to make the city a safer place to live and work.
