Temperatures warm slightly Monday

An area of high pressure begins to strengthen over New Mexico on Sunday, meaning some changes to the workweek forecast here in Southern California. Monday is the beginning of a warming trend, where temperatures begin to rise, only by 3-5 degrees for most areas. Skies stay cloudy through the first part of the day but clouds recede and more sunshine this evening.

Tuesday looks similar with skies clearing after lunchtime and sunshine warming temperatures further. Expect to see highs in the middle 70s and into the middle 80s near the beaches and into the 90s for the interior. Winds will stay breezy towards the afternoon but remain below advisory levels.

The second heat wave of the summer officially starts Wednesday where highs will be well above average for inland areas. An Excessive Heat Watch goes into effect starting Wednesday morning for interior areas near San Luis Obispo and extending to California Valley. Skies will stay dreary along the coast in the morning but better clearing after lunch, the marine layer and sea breeze helps to keep things cooler near the beach. The heat wave continues into the into the weekend, please practice heat safety, excessive heat for an extended period of time can be dangerous.
