Grover Beach Police Department holds an active shooter training drill

GROVER BEACH, Calif. -- The Grover Beach Police Department prepared an active shooter training drill this Saturday at Grover Beach Elementary School.

“With every school violence incident we see on the news or hear about, we always have to ask the hard questions. Are there things we can do better to prepare? What can we learn from those incidents to make sure we do our job" said Grover Beach PD Commander, Bryan Millard.

The training will have exercises to enhance the ability and knowledge of policemen in case of an active school shooter.

Grover Beach Sergeant, Ryan Wade said it is important to have this training because technology and skills change. Sergeant wade says training and drills include tactical entry, an active shooter scenario, and command post-training.

“We have an armored vehicle and we'll be learning about how to use that to keep our officers safe and to respond and help evacuate community members. We will have our drone team out here so we can train with the officers on how those drones might be used" said Millard.

School shootings have happened across the country and with the most recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas police agencies want to be prepared.

Law enforcement says they are trained to be the best they can be to protect their community and help ease parents' worries as the school year begins.

“We’re not going to hesitate to stop that threat. We will go in. We won't wait. We won't stop" said Commander Millard.

The training will have active shooter drills and will be set to go until 5 pm.
