Man arrested for allegedly brandishing weapon, making terrorist threats in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- A Santa Barbara man was arrested on Thursday after reports of threats and brandishing a hand gun.

On Thursday at around 2:28 p.m., Santa Barbara police received reports of a man brandishing a black hand gun and taser after a verbal altercation between two people.

Officers from the Santa Barbara Police Department responded to the area of 200 Reef Court.

At arrival, the victim reported that the man made serious verbal threats to harm the victim.

The man was identified as a 58-year-old Santa Barbara resident.

Before officers arrived, the suspect fled into his apartment and barricaded himself.

Officers established a perimeter around his residence.

An officer from the County’s Co-Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Response Team, CNRT, responded to the scene and established face-to-face contact with the suspect after multiple calls to the suspect's cell phone did not work.

After brief negotiations, the man surrendered to police without further incident.

Police searched the home and found a stun-gun, taser and a pepper spray gun.

The man was arrested on terrorist threats and brandishing a weapon.

He is booked in the Santa Barbara County Jail on $50,000 bail.
