OCEANO, Calif. - San Luis Obispo County firefighters responded to a brush fire that broke out near the border between Oceano and Grover Beach Thursday night.

The fire was reported around 7:36 p.m. and started about halfway between Highway 1 and the beach.

CAL FIRE said the perimeter of the flames was restrained by walking trails lined with sand. The fire continued burning towards the beach and firefighters expected it would reach the ocean before it was halted.

As of 9 p.m., the fire had no containment and was roughly seven acres in size.

Forward progress of the burn was halted around 10:20 p.m. Firefighters worked to establish containment lines. Five Cities Fire also responded to assist.

By 11:30 p.m., the fire was measured in at 11 acres by GPS and was 50% contained. Firefighters will remain on scene overnight to mitigate the burn.
No structures are threatened and no evacuations have taken place at this time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
